How should I design multipage brochures?

As part of our product offering, we include multipage formats, very popular for example for products such as brochures. These formats can be configured with different binding types. Also, it is essential you understand how to count the pages to include the right information in your API calls.

Note: If you are looking for information on how to design photo books, please refer to this article instead.

Binding types

For multipage formats, we offer 3 different binding types: Perfect bind, Stitched and Wire-o.

Perfect bind

In perfect binding pages are glued at the spine like a common book format. Perfect bind is supported between 28 and 250 pages for multiples of 2 (i.e. 28, 30, 32, ..., 250) and for thicker papers. For this kind of format, it is important to create the spine according to our requirements.

Saddle-stitched

In saddle stitch binding folded sheets are gathered one inside the other and stapled at the fold line with wire staples. Stitched binding is supported between 8 and 52 pages, page count must be multiple of 4 (i.e. 8, 12, 16,..., 52) and for thinner papers.

Wire-o

In wire-o binding pages are joined by pre-made wire loops threaded through holes punched in the pages. The wires are then closed to form a circle. This means that in a wire-o bound document pages can fold back on themselves fully. Wire-o binding is supported between 28 and 150 pages,  page count must be multiple of 2 (i.e. 28, 30, 32, ..., 150).

Important: When placing an order, the page count information is NOT included in the product UID, therefore this it has to be submitted as an additional attribute, called pageCount. Please refer to our technical documentation for more information.

How to count the pages

It is important that you do not count the paper sheets but the pages - this includes front and back cover. Below is an example of an 8-page booklet: In this case, your pageCount attribute will be '8'.
