Practical Examples for VAT applied in EU cross border transactions

Example 1: Gelato prints your order in Germany and delivers the order to an address in Austria. If you don’t provide any valid EU VAT ID, Gelato will charge 20% Austrian VAT on the order.

Example 2: Gelato prints your order in Germany and delivers the order to an address in Austria. You provide a valid German EU VAT ID, Gelato will charge 20% Austrian VAT on the order, since the VAT ID can’t be registered in the country where we ship the printed materials from.

Example 3: Gelato prints your order in Austria and delivers the order to an address in Germany. If you don't provide any valid EU VAT ID, Gelato will charge 19% German VAT* on the order.

*Important: for the period from 1 July 2020 through 31 December 2020, the German VAT standard rate is to be decreased to 16% (from 19%).

Example 4: Gelato prints your order in Austria and delivers the order to an address in Germany. You  provide a valid German EU VAT ID. Gelato will charge 0% VAT on the order.

Example 5: Gelato prints your order in Germany and delivers the order to an address in Denmark. You provide a valid French EU VAT ID. Gelato will charge 0% VAT on the order.
